Tierradentro in pictures

Tierradentro literally means underworld, or ‘under the earth’. The Unesco World Heritage Site was discovered more than a century ago by archaeologists, who noticed the tombs (hypogae) that were dug under the earth and were accessible by stairs. In these caves, the remains of the dead were stored in potts.
Now this area four hours east from Popayan is an amazing trip, and one of the better one-day hikes of Colombia. It will lead you past five sites of tombs. Here are some pictures to get an impression.
